Responsibility

Medication for all who need it in Portugal

Access to medical care should be a right for everybody, but poverty often represents an insurmountable obstacle. In fact, millions of patients around the world with chronic illnesses cannot adhere to their treatment for purely financial reasons or find themselves forced to choose between medications because they don’t have enough money for them all. In Portugal, it is estimated that around one in ten citizens find themselves in this situation. The Associação Dignitude is there to help. This association, also supported by Menarini Portugal, promotes the Abem Project, which provides medications prescribed by a doctor to those who are unable to afford them, covering the cost which is not subsidised by the government.
