Florence, 26th October 2017 – The idea was to help cope with the housing crisis. The aim was to provide a safe and comfortable home to families in economic difficulty. Four years have gone by since Menarini launched their commitment to renovating the first public housing units owned by the Florence Town Council. Since then, the inauguration of new and renovated apartments has become a regular appointment.

This year Menarini has continued to respect its commitment by funding the complete renovation of  10 housing units in residential areas in the Municipality of Florence, bringing the total number of apartments renovated to 40.  This time the housing units are situated in  Florence’s 2nd and 3rd Districts  and vary in size from 50 to 70 square metres.

Menarini funded the restructuring of the housing units making them safe and secure with a restoration of the electrical, mechanical and heating systems, replacement of kitchen and bathroom fittings as well as a checking of the fixtures. The renovation, which took several months to complete, has now made these homes comfortable, welcoming and, above all, safe.

The ceremony for the handing over of the keys to the apartments took place today, in the 3rd district in the Sorgane area of the city, in the presence of the Mayor of the City of Florence, Dario Nardella,  the Town Counsellor  for Housing, Sara Funaro, the Chairman of Casa Spa, Luca Talluri, as well as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Menarini Pharmaceutical Group, Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti.

“The city of Florence thanks the Menarini Pharmaceutical Group and the Aleotti Family for their commitment to the city of Florence and to helping Florentine families in need” declared Mayor Nardella. Thanks to the contribution of Menarini we have been able to renovate 40 apartments and we are counting on being able to continue this fruitful collaboration which benefits our entire community.” “As we have stated since the beginning of our  mandate – explained the Mayor – the housing policy is one of our priorities and we are working towards improving the actions taken to  deal with the housing crisis. We are working in a number of different ways: from public housing units, to social housing at a reduced rent rate, and second level accommodation. The target we have set ourselves is to create a system capable of responding to the different needs of citizens in difficulty.”

“Once again we want to thank the Menarini Pharmaceutical Group and the Aleotti Family for their commitment to this project and for having invested, and continuing to invest, in the social sector” stated  the Town Counsellor for Housing, Sara Funaro, “dedicating precious support to those families who need it most. Housing is a plight of our times and it is indeed one of the sectors in which we are deeply involved. As town counsel we are also seeking to guarantee social balance, not only in the public apartment buildings themselves but also during the assignment stage, through an attentive mediation between tenants and clear and effective condominium rules.”

“This is the fourth consecutive year that Menarini supports this solidarity project” declared Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti “To date we have contributed towards changing the lives of forty  families and we couldn’t be prouder. We are filled with joy at the thought that this year, thanks to Menarini, many children can live and grow up in a safe and comfortable home. We hope that, for these children, this will be the first step towards a more serene future.”

“I would like to thank Menarini for this important contribution”, stated the Chairman of Casa Spa, Talluri. ”We are particularly proud that Casa Spa has been integrated into the system of relations established in the city of Florence.”
