Menarini Celebrates 100 Years in Florence with Pontormo

Menarini inaugurates its centennial in the city of Florence with an event dedicated to art. The church of Santa Felicita  was the setting that hosted the presentation of a monograph dedicated to Pontormo edited by Antonio Natali, Director of the Uffizi, and Carlo Falciani, Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.  Santa Felicita, the Parish church of the Dei Medici family, houses the Capponi Chapel, decorated by Pontormo and Bronzino in the sixteenth century.

Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence: "Florence is proud to be the home of a company as important as Menarini whose presence in the city marks one hundred years.  It is a company that has distinguished itself over time not only for its commitment in the scientific field, but also for its close attention to the city.  Menarini’s interest has been demonstrated from a social point of view, for example with the public housing redevelopment project it sponsored, and from a cultural one with the publishing of a series of art books on the great Italian artists, the latest one being dedicated to Pontormo."

Antonio Natali, Director of the Uffizi and Carlo Falciani, Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna: "The book, just like the exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi in 2014, presents an interpretation of the figurative language of Pontormo and of the content of his works which is far from the many clichés that have influenced the twentieth century’s critical view of the artist, his character, his ideas and his expressive choices.  In this monograph – part of the series Menarini commendably dedicates to art history – it has been possible for us to draw conclusions on the investigations on Jacopo and his contemporaries which had been conducted in freedom of thought for a long time."

Lucia Aleotti, Chairman of the Menarini Group: "A century of Florentine-ness, a century during which Menarini has grown with the city. This has always been a source of our family’s great pride: to grow up in Florence. When our father with this philosophy joined the company in 1964, Menarini had only 188 employees. Today, it is a multinational company with over 16,000 employees.  My brother, Alberto Giovanni, and I also carry on this same great tradition, with solid roots in our city and expansion in the world, where we are already present in over one hundred countries. This is why we have decided to celebrate our 100 Florentine years. Today is the first event dedicated to art because Florence is art, something which has accompanied the company with its tradition of wonderful books and its renowned magazine, "Minuti Arte."  Many other initiatives will take place in honor of this centennial, dedicated to social causes, to children, to young people, work, sports, and the environment ... always keeping in mind our objective: Drug quality comes first!"
