Bags of rice for the blind in Taiwan

Blindness is not just the inability to see. Often, it also means the inability to be independent, the need for constant external support, being unable to work, having nothing to live on. This is why, in many countries, the associations which support people who have lost their sight play an essential role in providing them with sustenance. These include the Taiwan Foundation for the Blind, founded in 1991. To raise funds for this organisation, Menarini Taiwan purchased a kit with a bag containing two different types of rice, a staple food which is ever-present at mealtimes in this country. The bag was given to all employees in exchange for a donation, the proceeds from which went to funding the activities of the Taiwan Foundation for the Blind. In this way, everybody was able to make their own small but significant contribution in a show of solidarity.
