Factory workers in the 1960s
Menarini Spain turns 65 in 2026, a chance to take stock of six decades of work in the country and, just as much, to consider what comes next. Health and innovation have shaped the company from the beginning, and they still set the direction as the demands of healthcare keep shifting.
To mark the occasion, Menarini Spain is launching a new microsite devoted to these 65 years of history, a digital space that brings the story together through several lenses: innovation, industrial capability, the talent of its people, and a firm commitment to society.
Local roots, international vision

Menarini’s presence in Spain rests on a long legacy that began in 1924, when the pharmacist Zenón Puig Sala founded his laboratory in Ripoll (Catalunya). In 1961 that experience was brought into the Menarini Group with the formal creation of Laboratorios Menarini S.A. — a move that marked not only the beginning of the company’s presence in the country but also the start of the Group’s international expansion.
A decade later, in 1972, the opening of the Badalona plant gave a decisive boost to its industrial and scientific capability, and in 1979 Menarini Spain took on the task of reaching into Latin America, with a site and plant in Guatemala.

Badalona remains the heart of the company’s activity today. The complex brings together the corporate offices, the production plant and the research, innovation and pharmacovigilance teams, and it plays a key role in the Group’s international network, manufacturing solutions that reach patients across the world.

The value of experience

The chosen motto 65 years of Menarini: plenty of life ahead captures a determination to keep evolving. After more than six decades, the company can draw on a foundation of scientific knowledge and industrial strength ready to meet the medical challenges of today, particularly in highly complex fields such as oncology and the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
The figures speak for themselves: a portfolio of more than 120 medicines, a production centre able to supply 70 million units a year, and a place among the top 15 companies in the Spanish prescription market. None of this would be possible without a team of more than 700 professionals: the engine of this transformation. Their commitment is what allows Menarini to make a real difference, not only through health but also through sustainability and support for the communities where it operates.
That commitment extends to sharing knowledge. For decades, through Área Científica Menarini, the company has run continuing medical education programmes and scientific meetings for healthcare professionals, working closely with universities, hospitals and medical-scientific organisations to advance medicine and improve patient care.

65 years supporting patients
For Menarini Spain, this anniversary carries three meanings. It stands first for experience: a body of knowledge placed at the service of patients and of a close, honest partnership with healthcare professionals, day after day. It is also a matter of commitment to responsible production and to social initiatives that create real value in the surrounding communities and in people’s lives. And it points to evolution, preparing for the challenges of tomorrow with innovative solutions in critical therapeutic areas.

The new commemorative microsite is a window onto all of this. Visitors will find life stories from the people who make up Menarini, a look back at the scientific milestones that have shaped its path, and real-time news of the events tied to the 65th anniversary.
Menarini Spain’s gratitude goes to everyone on its team, the engine of this journey; to the healthcare professionals whose trust makes it possible to walk alongside them; and, above all, to the patients, who remain the very reason for its work. A new chapter now begins, with more determination than ever and one clear conviction: behind lies an extraordinary history and, ahead, plenty of life still to come.
