More than thirty years ago, the Menarini Group set up a small office in Prague. That modest beginning has since grown into Berlin-Chemie Menarini Czech Republic, a branch of 132 people with an annual turnover exceeding 61 million euros and a portfolio of some 30 brands.
Situated in the heart of Central Europe, the Czech Republic has gone through a profound transformation in recent decades. With a population of more than 10.5 million and one of the most dynamic economies in the region, the country has become a market that never stands still: a place where the healthcare system, the regulatory framework and the expectations of patients and doctors have all evolved at a remarkable pace.
It is against this backdrop that the Menarini Group has been building its presence for over three decades, supporting the national healthcare system and strengthening its ties with the Czech medical community day after day.
When Berlin-Chemie Menarini arrived in the early 1990s, the Czech Republic was in the midst of a major transition. The pharmaceutical market was still in its infancy and the rules governing it were changing rapidly. The Group started out with a handful of people in Prague and a clear ambition: to build something that would last.
That ambition has become an organisation of 132 people who work every day to bring patients increasingly innovative healthcare solutions. The figures tell the same story. Turnover now exceeds 61 million euros, double the 2015 figure. More than a commercial result, this growth reflects the trust that healthcare professionals across the country have placed in Berlin-Chemie Menarini over the years, in a highly competitive market.

Berlin-Chemie Menarini Czech Republic currently offers around 30 brands, spanning prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and medical devices. The therapeutic areas covered are just as broad: respiratory diseases and allergies, cardiometabolic conditions and the management of acute pain, always with the aim of responding to the needs of patients and the doctors who treat them.
Innovation remains the engine of this development. More recently, the portfolio has been extended with a biologic therapy for severe asthma, strengthening the offering available to specialist centres.
Being part of the Menarini Group means drawing on more than a century of international experience while remaining close to the communities in which the company operates. In the Czech Republic, this translates into investment that goes well beyond innovative treatments: medical and scientific training, research projects and partnerships with healthcare professionals are all part of the same commitment.
Looking back over thirty years of milestones, the Czech team is proud of the road travelled, but its sights are already set on what comes next. The goal is to keep growing alongside the country, bringing innovation to doctors’ surgeries, hospitals and pharmacies and helping to improve the health and quality of life of patients every day.
Berlin-Chemie Menarini: the Group’s bridge to Central and Eastern Europe
In the Czech Republic, as across the whole of Central and Eastern Europe, the Menarini Group operates through Berlin-Chemie. For more than a century, the Berlin-based company has stood for innovative research and the production of both newly developed and well-established pharmaceutical products, with a single purpose: to bring new medicines to patients and help improve their quality of life.
Since 1992, Berlin-Chemie has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Menarini Group, being responsible for the pharmaceutical markets of Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States: more than 30 countries in all.
With subsidiaries or representative offices in most of these countries, Berlin-Chemie draws on an in-depth knowledge of local markets and an excellent distribution network, built up over decades of presence in the region. The Czech branch is one of the clearest expressions of this model: international strength, applied with local sensitivity.
