VERONESE, A RIOT OF COLOURS The new Menarini Art Volume, dedicated to the great painter, showcased in Turin

Turin, 6 May 2024 - The latest volume of the Menarini Group’s prestigious art series, showcased on Sunday 5 May at Palazzo Madama in Turin, takes us back to the pomp of the Venetian Republic and the splendour of colours that only Venetian art can portray.

The protagonist is Paolo Caliari, better known simply as ‘Veronese’, who, together with Titian and Tintoretto, formed the trio that dominated 16th-century European painting and became a reference model for modern art and the inspiration that ushered in the Impressionist era.

The author of the volume is Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa, expert on Venetian Renaissance art and museum curator, director of Palazzo Madama - Civic Museum of Ancient Art of Turin.

“Veronese is the artist who interpreted, narrated and inaugurated the 16th century as a painter of people and architecture, draughtsman and master of the use of colour”, explains Villa. “His lesson has spanned the centuries and is appreciated and understood by anyone who has sought to colour the world’s emotion, portraying human drama on the stage of the theatre of life. He was the least Venetian and the most ‘Italian’ among the painters who left their mark in Venice. An ‘outsider’, born, raised and educated in a city set against the hills and overlooking the plains, he absorbed the moods and messages of art from the lands of Lombardy and Emilia Romagna, and cultivated classicism while experimenting with invention”.

Menarini’s journey, that began in 1956 when the first of its art volumes was published, continues with Veronese”, say Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti, shareholders and members of Menarini’s Board of Directors. “The pursuit of beauty and the dissemination of culture are the cornerstones of civilisation and collective growth. We firmly believe that the union of art and science is inextricably bound to the progress and future of the new generations”.

Over the years, the Group’s focus on art has evolved with the multimedia project, Menarini Pills of Art, featuring short videos with 30 million views, in which art experts recount anecdotes and fun facts about the works showcased in Menarini’s Art Volumes. Over 700 videos, with tens of millions of views, available on Menarini’s YouTube channel in eight languages.
