Menarini against cancer: for a child, ‘home’ means family

The Menarini Group continues to stand firmly by the side of the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation, which has spent over 20 years working with the Meyer Hospital in Florence on the Family Accommodation Project and in support of medical-scientific research in the field of oncology.

Florence, 6 November 2020 - Dedication and perseverance must never waver in the search for cancer treatments. Menarini is continuing to invest in cancer research, while at the same time reconfirming its care for the young patients facing this battle through the support it has given the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation since its very beginnings.

The Foundation was established in 2000 thanks to Paolo and Barbara Bacciotti, the parents of little Tommasino, who died at the age of just two years old due to a rare form of brain tumour. In memory of Tommaso, the Foundation works alongside the Meyer Hospital, supporting it both in medical-scientific research and with the Family Accommodation Project.
The apartment sponsored by Menarini will open its doors to the families of young cancer patients, who must endure long stays in hospital to receive treatment, completely free of charge. In many cases, these people come from all over Italy and are forced to spend very long periods of time far away from the places they are familiar with, as well as other members of their families. In the Guest House, not only are the children sur-rounded by the love of those closest to them, allowing them to live in an environment as similar as possible to that of their homes, but they can also receive part of their cancer treatment in a day hospital following their discharge from the cancer ward. This option also enables an increased availability of hospital beds, thus generating significant savings for public healthcare.
“Extraordinary progress has been made in cancer treatment. In Italy, one million people are alive thanks to pharmaceutical research in this field”, declared Lucia and Alberto Giovanni Aleotti, Menarini Board members and shareholders. “It is important, however, not to lose focus, but to persevere with efforts for diagnosis and treatment even during the era of Covid”.
The Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation welcomes the families of children affected by cancer, addressing their needs and providing them with basic necessities, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, as well as guaranteeing play therapy courses following discharge from hospital.

“We want to thank Menarini for its continued belief in and contribution to our project ever since the Foundation was created, with an unwavering dedication that has lasted for over 20 years”, stated Paolo Bacciotti, President of the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation. "In our Guest Houses, these little ones and their families are able to stay together, and we do our best to help them find a way to live with the disease, by every means possible, and to find the right attitude and the strength to fight it”..
