Menarini Pills Of Art

The series of Menarini art volumes

More than 60 years have gone by since Menarini published its very first volume of art. The title was "The Witness of Egypt" and it was little more than a news reportage on the land of the Pyramids, where one could discover the treasures of the Pharaohs. It was so highly appreciated by its readers that the company decided to continue the tradition and hence other art publications have followed on year after year. The narrative style and approach has changed over time, and from the first stories and news reportages, we have moved on to unprecedented monographs on some of history’s greatest Renaissance painters and sculptors. The authors of the Menarini monographs are among Italy’s greatest art historians: Rossella Vodret, who edited the volume on Caravaggio in 2009, Claudio Strinati, the author of the Bronzino monograph in 2010, Antonio Natali whose volume was dedicated to Rosso Fiorentino in 2006, Marco Versiero who penned the volume on Leonardo in 2015, Francesco Mancini and his publication on Pintoricchio in 2007, Marco Grassi who enlightened readers on the life and works of Artemisia Gentileschi in 2017 and Renzo and Giovanni Villa, authors of numerous Menarini art publications such as those on Lorenzo Lotto, Tintoretto, and Tiepolo.

Further to the publication of each of the Menarini art volumes, an official presentation to the public is organised in the city which, in that particular period, has either recently put on an exhibition dedicated to the artist in question or which houses some of his or her masterpieces in its museums. For example, in 2010, the presentation of the volume on Caravaggio was held in the unique surroundings of the deconsecrated church of Santa Marta in Rome, whilst in 2015, to mark the 100th anniversary of Menarini in Florence, the company presented its publication on Leonardo da Vinci against one of the City of Florence’s most impressive backdrops: the magnificent Salone de’ 500 in Palazzo Vecchio . Florence was also the venue chosen for the presentation of the most recent addition to the series ‘Artemisia Gentileschi’, held last Spring in the exquisite setting of the Sala Bianca in Palatina Gallery of Palazzo Pitti.
