The ‘Fondazione Internazionale Menarini’. Art and Science.
The Fondazione Internazionale Menarini (Menarini
International Foundation) was set up in spring 1976. Its
aim was to promote research and knowledge in the fields
of biology, pharmacology and medicine but also, though
more implicitly, of economy and human sciences. The
range was to be a wide one; specific problems would
be dealt with from very different points of view, mainly of
course the scientific one, but also taking into account the
professional and practical ones. In any case the broad
social significance would always be borne in mind.
The logo of the Fondazione Internazionale Menarini,
adopted at the moment of its
Constitution, derives from a
famous XVIIth-century treatise, the
Nuovissima Iconologia del Ripa;
this image of a man leading a horse
with the reins tightly gripped, rich
in symbolic symbolism, was chosen
because it is a good representation
of the aims and topics dear to the Fondazione, whose
interests are balanced between human and biological
sciences, and which has always worked towards an
ever-clearer definition of the responsibility of science.
The Foundation is dedicated to a range of activities,
including seminars, conferences, lectures and round
tables, in collaboration with universities, institutional
bodies and the world of culture and science.
In more than thirty years of activity, the Fondazione
has organised over 200 International Ccnferences on
medical and scientific topics with particular innovative
characteristics, or on themes addressing social, cultural
and economic issues of interest to the healthcare
professionals. These conferences have been attended by
several Nobel prize-winners as well as tens of thousands
of doctors from all over Europe, who have thus benefited
from an advanced updating and moreover been able to
establish contacts with leading International Schools.
