GYNAECOLOGICAL
"Women's health" is an area of great interest for Menarini. In the '80s, Menarini entered the gynaecological sector with a line of low-dosage oral contraceptives which guarantee high contraceptive efficacy plus safety of use.
Osteoporosis is a disease characterised by bone mass reduction and hence alteration of the bone microarchitecture leading to a reduction in the resistance of the bone; this increases the risk of spontaneous fractures. There are essentially two types of osteoporosis. Post-menopausal osteoporiosis, whose main cause is the fast decrease in oestrogen which occurs in the years immediately following menopause. Senile osteoporosis, is characteristic of the elderly and is linked to an increase in parathormone, a hormone which removes calcium and phosphate from the bone.
Anaemia is a pathological condition characterised by a reduction in haemoglobin (the oxygen-binding protein contained in the red cells), which may have various causes. The most frequent forms are linked to haemorrhages, deficits of iron or group B vitamins (folic acid and vitamin B12) and some genetic traits. Patients affected with anaemia may have a pale skin colour, a tendency to tire easily, difficulty concentrating, headaches etc.
The contraceptive pill is one of the most effective methods of controlling fertility. The reasons for its success are its high efficacy, its user-friendliness, the reversibility of its effect. "The pill" acts by rendering the ovary dormant, thus preventing ovulation. |
